I follow the LawnPride Couch program. Approx every 2 weeks I will put down products to help feel the lawn. This ranges from KELP-ER, Tracemaxx, Greenxtra, Rootmaxx and Hydramax. I also use Oxfert and Acelepryn GR every 6 months to manage weeds and grubs. I water every 3 days giving it a nice long water to get to the roots.

First step each year is I get a lab based soil test and I build a program around that. I have lots of heavy clay based soil so it’s important I don’t apply products that make things worse. Program typically consists of monthly soil amendments, regular iron applications and soil wetter in between granular fertiliser applications. I renovate once per year and twice per year on our pitch and putt greens to seed for winter/summer (Princess 77 for summer, Bent Grass for winter).

I use plant doctor activ8 mate, soil wetter, seaweed secrets, stimulate, fulvic acid and Quantum h every 3 weeks. Trismart h2pro monthly. Preventative fungicide monthly alternating between rapide aqua 500 sc and chlortan 720. Lawnpride greenxtra and tracemax monthly as well as astro 120 me plant growth regulator. Hand weed as required. Watering as required, no irrigation.

Mow with Restored 1969 model Scott Bonnar 20 inch cylinder mower between 10-13mm 1-2 times per week. Application of PGR in the growing season keeps the amount of mowing to a minimum. Groom with a Scott Bonnar 17 inch cylinder mower fitted with a grooming reel every 3-4 weeks. Edges trimmed with a battery powered edger after every mow. Renovate every October – scalp back to dirt, scarify, core aerate, light sand to level and big hit of CK88 to get it going. Acelepryn GR spread 3 times per year to keep bugs and worms at bay . I mow and edge twice a week, and a bit different to most. I mow first and edge last. I’ve had a lot of comments about how good the edges are and I believe it’s the process I do. Double cut cylinder mow every time in at least 2 directions, followed by rotary scissors flat topping the edge, followed by a stick edger, then a blow. It’s gives the cleanest sharpest edge, as a tradesman you have what you call your finishing tools and I believe edging should be done last as you can’t miss anything. I try to groom the lawn every 2-4 weeks lightly as part of a maintenance schedule I use all Lawn Pride products on my lawn, they work amazing and I’m yet to fault any! In spring I did a very big heavy renovation, the hardest I’ve ever gone. Scalped the tiftuf down to absolute dirt, also core aerated, and scarified. Then I used Centenary Landscapes Fairway Pro Maxx top dressing sand which was next level! Followed by Lawn Pride Gro Turf. I also use Lawn Prides range of foliar fertilisers on a monthly application. I have not long ago put out my first application of PGR for the season also. Every fertiliser application, rates of products put out, to scheduled grooming gets noted down in a book so I can look back and stay on top of my program.

I love nothing more than mowing & maintaining my garden on a daily basis, It’s my happy place. I maintain about 240m2 of turf at my home which is a 1478m2 size block. This section I’m submitting is 40m2 of sir grange zoysia. It was originally carpet grass and plenty of crows foot. Area was dug out 250mm I installed a French drain to deal with water from the retaining wall and I used a 80/20 base for my turf to go on. This was done 10 months ago, so my lawn is very young. Regular mowing every 2-3 days at 15mm & a deep watering every 3 days is my main weekly routine. This lawn had a full renovation in October which consisted of a scalp verti mow, aerate and top dress. Fortnightly applications of soil conditioning amendments such as humic, Kelper & Rootmax from lawn pride and a wetting agent to maintain and provide a good base and foundation for my SGZ to grow in. With fortnightly foliar apps of a liquid cocktail fert/iron and Tracemaxx which is a great nutrient based liquid. I generally run half rates and apply fortnightly as I find this assists great in summer with heat stress and overall plant health. I granular fert every 6-8 weeks and alternate between 2 ferts to shake things up. Also apply acelepryn every 6 months. I’m wanting to enter best landscaped lawn as it’s not a big size lawn but I did my best integrating the SGZ with the garden which is hedging and topiary. I feel the lawn sets of the garden and vice versa working well together and I also thought it would be a bit of fun entering my labour of love.

Fertilise every 2-3 months Pgr every month in the growing months Seasol every 2-3 weeks.
